Advance Infrastructure for Fiber and DSL Services
Advanced Internet applications like IPTV, Triple-Play and online gaming are growing rapidly in most major markets worldwide. In mid-2006, Deutsche Telecom already covers 2.9 million homes in 10 major German cities with Fiber+VDSL2 (IDATE, 2007); by the end of 2010, VDSL will account for nearly 20% of the market and the upstream bandwidth will increase dramatically thanks to the Web 2.0 applications (IDC, 2007), while Telco/ISP invests and relies on the equipment with next-generation technologies to fulfill the aforementioned bandwidth-driven services. The ZyXEL VES-1616PE was segmented for "The Last Mile" of high-bandwidth demand leveraging fiber optics and VDSL networks. Since it can be easily mounted on building walls or poles, new Telco services can be deployed and delivered to residential users rapidly. As the GPON uplink bridges fiber infrastructure and distributes services through existing telephone lines (DSL) to end-users, it also broadens the market for both DSL and FTTx environment as a revenue-driving tool.
Environment Harden Design to Optimize Deployment/Maintenance Cost
Since Telcos need to provide uninterrupted services to their users, they depend highly on infrastructure readiness. Although FTTx is well-known as a state-of-the-art solution for broadband deployment, but the difficulty and cost of fiber implementation are still higher than expectation as various DSL broadband services need to be deployed all the way from Telco's central office (CO) to street cabinets and residential basements, and finally to homes. ZyXEL's Environmental Harden VDSL2 switch plays the bridge role to eliminate the gap between service providers and users; it was designed for a small amount of users (8-16 each) and can be attached to poles along the roads or the wall outside buildings. The environmentally hardened fan-less mechanism meets strict industrial standards of air, water, and temperature resistance, and the CAPEX (Capital expenditures) and OPEX (Operational Expenditures) will be optimized through fast, cost-effective deployments and easy maintenance to guarantee the best ROI (Return of Investment).
Secured Service Quality Assures Telco Revenue
Broadband access services from Telco are like conventional telephone services: they serve a large demographic area with many people online at the same time – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is service providers' obligation to ensure applications go smooth and network resources properly prioritized. Interruptions such as service delays, lags or even blackouts may not cause critical data loss, but it is hardly bearable to users of advanced applications like IPTV, VOD, VoIP or online games. ZyXEL provides dedicated QoS features for VLAN, multicasting, priority queue, classifier, policy rules and traffic shaping, and they also helps administrators to monitor, analyze and modify networking settings and status. Advanced features like IGMP Snooping, MVR and MAC Filtering can even optimize data or video streaming in the traffics. Services subscribed by different users can be safely isolated without interfering others on the same network. Moreover, video and multicasting traffics can be optimized before delivering to the right destination effectively by preventing unnecessary traffics.
Energy-saving Green Product for Better Environment
As the second place of "Green Enterprise Award" in Asia and the first place in Taiwan, ZyXEL's has been recognized internationally for its long-time effort on environmental protection and energy saving. ZyXEL always insists on environmental protection and green design concepts in terms of manufacturing. In the process, ZyXEL always chooses "clean" material, and the products must undergo repeated, rigorous testing before delivery to avoid environmental or human hazards. With power consumption of only 59w, which is lower than a typical home personal computer, VES-1616PE is not just a flexible bridge between FTTx and DSL, but also a pioneer of Green practices.
