Taiwan innovation shed light on virus combating
Date published 2020-02-11

Taipei, Feb. 11 (TAITRA) – Taiwan’s capabilities for innovation and advanced technology have shed some light on recent public concern of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which started mid-December in China and had claimed more than 1,000 lives as of Feb. 11.

The LUFT Cube compact filterless air purifier by the Taoyuan-based Rice Ear would help neutralize unwanted pollutants in the air such as molds, odors, toxic chemicals, allergens, fungi, and even bacteria as well as viruses into harmless water and carbon dioxide.

The company noted on its website that it is proved that the award-winning product can kill viruses, such as SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) coronavirus, Norovirus, Vaccinia, etc.

Titus Chang, co-founder of Rice Ear, told TAITRA that the LUFT Cube is the world’s first filterless air purifier of its size. “It is the ultimate personal air purifier,” he said.

However, having the purifier doesn’t mean that you are one hundred percent safe from the virus, Chang pointed out, adding that taking precautions, maintaining personal hygiene and avoiding close contact with individuals with respiratory illness are the keys.

“Don’t forget another way to protect against the new type of coronavirus is to frequently wash one's hands with soap,” he said, citing health experts that individuals should not touch their face, especially eyes, nose, or mouth, before washing their hands.
