Taiwan's great defender. A single mask can tip the scale.
Date published 2020-03-10

Prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, no one could have expected that these light and thin masks could bring such an alarming impact at a critical moment in epidemic prevention. These quality, Taiwanese-made masks, shows Taiwan's remarkable performance in the medical industry. In the competitive mask market, which requires small profits and quick returns, Taiwanese mask manufacturers differentiate themselves from other competitors. They manufacture high-quality mask products that possess reassuring protection quality at the critical moment of epidemic prevention. Among the 94 percent or more class of masks with filtering efficiency, Taiwan has become a net exporter, accounting for over 40 percent of the total export value of masks. The top three export countries are the United Kingdom, Singapore and Switzerland.

Countries are now preparing for an unexpected epidemic and are gradually beginning to control the export of their domestic manufactured masks. In order to secure domestic inventory and stabilize the epidemic prevention front line, the Taiwanese government also announced early on January 23, 2020 that domestic manufactured masks would be banned from exporting altogether, and that 29 domestic mask manufacturers' inventories would be levied to control domestic supply and sell prices in a unified manner. In addition, on February 6, the real-name acquisition system for masks was implemented, integrating back with Taiwan's firm technological strength - this control system was quickly launched to lead the world. Masks that can be easily obtained in our daily life make great achievements instantly and become important backdrops during epidemic prevention. Local machine manufacturers even assisted in the construction of production lines. The daily output of masks will reach 10 million pieces by mid-March.

In 2019, the export value of masks in Taiwan was US$18.1 million, an increase of 7.2 percent over the previous year of US$16.79 million. The top three mask factories in Taiwan based on production are MOTEX, CSD and CHAMP. They are also working with the government to produce masks at this time. In particular, MOTEX in Changhua is an award-winning brand for excellence in Taiwan, representing its quality and innovative strength.

MOTEX owns Taiwan's first mask tourism factory, which combines both health education and brand marketing. MOTEX's products are patented in 'Diamond Sharp Face Mask', which is a specially designed 3D structure. Not only is it cost-effective, but it also increases the mouth and nose space and makes wearing more comfortable. At a critical time in epidemic prevention, their products reassure a high level of protection and demonstrate Taiwanese brands' ability to exert an innovative concept across all walks of life.

Facing the COVID-19 challenge, Taiwan upholds its sense of confidence and independence by combining industrial strength, rapid government response, and medical industry expertise in taking precautions. TAITRA will continue to support Taiwan's medical industry. MEDICAL TAIWAN 2020, which create the only B2B business platform in the medical device and healthcare industry in Taiwan, will be hosted from June 11 to 13 this year. Taiwan Excellence will also lead award-winning companies to AGExpo Malaysia, IDEM Singapore, AACC USA and MEDICA Germany. Taiwan Excellence will continue to help domestic companies make breakthroughs during the virus period.
