Taiwan’s Smart Machinery Showcases the Latest Smart Solutions in Webinar for Czech Partners
Date published 2021-11-10

Taiwan is one of the most important global machine tool suppliers, with an annual production value of over US$3 billion, ranking No. 5 in exports and No. 7 in manufacturing around the world. The Czech Republic is known for its industrial strength in automotive engineering, which has a huge demand for machine tools. Taiwan’s machine tool companies specialize in various customized, automated, and intelligent machine tool manufacturing, making them a partner that can revolutionize industrial processes.

Five Taiwan Excellence award-winning companies including HIWIN Technologies, JEENXI Technologies (Sunmill), Fair Friend Enterprise (FFG), Tongtai Machine & Tool Co. and AXILE Machine (Buffalo Machinery), were invited to demonstrate their intelligent manufacturing solutions in the “Taiwan Excellence - Pushing the Boundaries of Smart Manufacturing” webinar” on Nov, 10, 2021. The event was organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA, Taiwan and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council.

Mr. Wen-Hsien Hsu, Chairman of the Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’ Association, stated in the opening that the development of Industry 4.0 has made manufacturing intelligence a key consideration for all companies. Taiwan has an extremely well-developed information communications industry with extensive software and hardware integration capability, allowing us to quickly introduce smart elements to machine tools. This means that we have the mobility and flexibility to produce high precision, high-tech and high value-added products at a competitive price to meet the needs of global buyers.

Mr. Maurice Chang, Senior Director Marketing Group for HIWIN, showcased its intelligent 4.0 Ballscrew, which is the first intelligent ballscrew in the world. Equipped with a hybrid sensor and advanced algorithm, it has a life prediction function to maintain zero machine downtime. With its smart lubrication it also saves on oil consumption by 40-70%. Temperature and vibration can be detected as well, thereby avoiding thermal effect errors and allowing for the tracking of abnormal records. All the data can be visualized in real-time remotely. It is useful for maintaining high productivity, stabilizing product quality, being environmental-friendly, and planning maintenance schedules easily.

Ms. Lucy Chen, Special Assistant for JEENXI, introduced its latest 5-axis machine (UH-500), which is based on linear guideways and a hydraulic cylinder design. It is ideal for creating complex shapes and multi-curved parts in advanced manufacturing processes. This also reduces the cycle time to improve production efficiency. In addition, it works for multi-processing to solve workpiece change problems and meets diversified but small quantity demand. Furthermore, it can be used in the automotive, aerospace, healthcare and wind energy fields.

Mr. Miro Lin, General Manager for Intelligent Manufacturing & Data Services Division of FFG, the third-largest machinery tool group in the world, presented its AI Swing-Head 5 Axis Machining Center (UB-660), with the application of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI). The product meets the needs of large-scale and high-precision production. Moreover, the company also minimizes the administrative burden for manufacturers through component detection and AI-based maintenance, which reduces the need for the physical inspection of equipment.

Mr. Jolly Wu, Sales Assisted Manager from Tongtai, a leading Taiwanese machine tool manufacturer and well-known turnkey solution provider, focused on its automation solutions, which integrate hardware, software and management. Its solution allows for the application of machines to various loading and unloading equipment and different types of accessories to optimize productivity. In addition, its services include a robotic arm with a 3D visual system, two different loading methods, real-time quality inspection, a manufacturing schedule function and machine networking. These combine to boost operational efficiency for companies operating in a wide range of sectors.

Ms. Erica Tsai, Sales Manager for AXILE, presented its proprietary SMT™ and ART™ technologies, which allow for the implementation of a range of innovative, automatic pallet-changing solutions and flexible manufacturing systems. The company’s digital automation solutions enable customers to increase their operation efficiency and boost their productivity by up to 30 - 200%. The possibility of unmanned 24/7 production also helps in efforts to cut excess energy usage while, at the same time, reducing staffing costs.

The webinar attracted more than 67 people who registered online, including mechanical professional media, such as MMSpektrum, Zakázka.cz, Strojírenství.cz, Technikaatrh.cz  from Czech; MM Magazyn Przemy, mechanik, dlaprodukcji, Staleo, Zrobotyzowany from Poland; well-known companies such as
machine tool distributor POLTRA Sp. z oo and metalcluster Centrum Promocji Innowacji i Rozwoju from Poland, and manufacturer of machine joining components Normagroup from Germany, etc. People who are interested in Taiwan’s machine tools are welcome to visit the Taiwan Excellence Digital Pavilion (https://world.taiwanexcellence.org/en/categories/machine-tools).
