The 28th Taiwan Excellence Gold and Silver Awards Winners Unveiled! Highlighting Taiwan’s Strength in Smart Solutions

Organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the 28th Taiwan Excellence Awards Ceremony, regarded as the Oscar award of the Taiwanese Industry, was held on November 27. Taiwan Excellence Gold and Silver Awards were not only announced, but 418 Taiwan Excellence Award winning products from 240 companies were awarded at the ceremony. "Solution" products account for 22 percent, which shows that the application of AIoT has become a trend and has been introduced to the medical and machinery fields. ICT industry products account for 34 percent of the total award-winning products. The smart machinery industry accounts for 18 percent, while the medical industry accounts for 12 percent. In addition, this year's award-winning products on more eco-friendly/green energy reflects increased environmental awareness and the Taiwanese government’s policy to promote renewable energy.

The 10 Taiwan Excellence Gold Awards and 20 Silver Award winning products are miniature Taiwan Industry Innovalues in the fields of ICT, medical equipment, smart machinery, fitness equipment, and transportation. In addition to Taiwan Excellence Gold and Silver Awards winning products, other Taiwan Excellence Award winning products are exceptional, especially the application of AIoT in smart machinery and smart healthcare. For example, smart glasses present surgeons with a surgical path that allows them to perform surgery intuitively. Smart Robot Arm performs complex pick-and-place tasks as its visual identity function, which is indispensable for smart manufacturing. Smart life products, including smart water meters and smart coffee makers can make busy life easier.    

The panel of judges all gave high recognition to the innovation and business potential among the winning products. Quality Judge Professor Seijiro Oshimura, Managing Director of the Management Research Institute in Tokyo, praised the Mechanical Arm Wireless Interactive Visualizer, which enables innovative teaching methods to be conducted in all teaching environments through its advantages of compactness and portability. He also highlighted that smart healthcare has great potential in Taiwan as we can see there are multiple medical devices among this year's candidates integrated with IT technologies.

Quality Judge, Professor Ci-Guang Chen of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management of Yuan Ze University chimed with Professor Seijiro Oshimura by pointing out that all industries, including traditional and high-tech industries, are beginning to introduce AI and IT functions to their products and manufacturing processes this year. It demonstrates Taiwan's great strength in keeping up with the rapidly changing pace of the industry at all times, to follow and pursue the latest trends in the world, which are in line with Taiwan's core value of excellence-innovation.

''This year's candidates and winners have impressed me with their innovation and designs that go beyond current industrial trends," said Design Judge Mr. Gordon Bruce, Judge of the Red Dot Design Award 2019. He gave positive remarks to Taiwan's creativity by blending Taiwanese culture and specialties into products, making Made In Taiwan (MIT), products stand out in the global market.

Moreover, Professor Li Chung Jen, Director of Global Branding and Marketing Research Center, National Taiwan University, a marketing judge, noted that Taiwan's industry has demonstrated great management over product quality and demonstrated excellent research and development capabilities. Professor Jen believes that Taiwan's brands should augment their design and marketing capabilities in the future. ''The Taiwan Excellence Award plays a significant role in helping Taiwan's brands to increase added value and create innovation value, so as to deliver more brand and customer value," Professor Li-Chung Jen said. He also appreciated that the Taiwan Excellence Award serves as a powerful force to improve local brand strategies in global marketing and further raise the bar for the industry by providing a thorough examination to all applicants for award selection. Marketing Judge Professor Jonathan H. Deacon, vice chairman of the European Marketing Confederation (EMC), praised BOFT and TAITRA's efforts in shaping and enhancing the competitiveness of local brands to promote Taiwan's value to the world.

 

The symbol of Taiwan Excellence honors Taiwan's most innovative products and provides tremendous value to users worldwide. All products carrying this symbol were selected for specific Taiwan Excellence Awards based on their excellence in research and development, design, quality, marketing and Taiwanese manufacturing. The Taiwan Excellence Awards was initiated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan, R.O.C. in 1993 to assist Taiwanese brands in entering global markets. Award-winning companies carrying the Taiwan Excellence logo not only highlight their accolades, enjoy self-promotion, but also have the opportunity to join collective marketing activities organized by BOFT and TAITRA in Taiwan and international markets.
