UPower, a new hot swap battery concept for hospital carts equipped with laptops. In many Hospitals laptops are used on carts for data entry and data retrieval of patient or medication data. After 1-2 years of usage the laptop batteries needs to be replaced or even worse﹐if the batteries cannot be replaced by the service department﹐the laptop needs to be send to a service center for refurbishment of the internal batteries. ONYX recognized this is as a not a very customer friendly solution and developed the UPower with hot swap batteries. This power bank can be fitted to any cart. The batteries can be replaced on demand by any user and because of it has multiple Voltage outputs (9V﹐19V and 24V DC) it can power almost any laptop or any device used on a cart.
In the past, electrically powered pharmacy carts were not in popular use due to the fact that the carts could lock out access to patients’ medication if the cart were to lose power. Much time would then be wasted waiting for the cart to be fully charged before it could be used again, and medical staff would need to find alternatives to proving patients with the medicine they need.
With UPower, the capability of providing endless power with an innovative dual hot swappable battery architecture ensures that the pharmacy carts remain powered even while replacing a battery. Because electronic devices operate with varying voltage requirements, UPower adapters include a voltage selection switch that allows users to select the desired voltage setting. Users can select from 12, 19, or 24 volts based on their needs. The adapter also includes a 50W DC-out socket that can fit diverse applications.
Because UPower is compatible with ORION, IT staff can easily remotely monitor the battery status of every pharmacy cart in the hospital, ensuring that every battery is operating at peak performance.
